The Grand County Budget Advisory Board announced on Apr. 23 that it is seeking a volunteer citizen appointee with an interest in or professional knowledge of budgeting and finance.
The role is important because members of the board work alongside elected county leaders to review and understand the Grand County budget in detail. Each department presents its budget request at open public meetings before the tentative budget moves to the full Grand County Commission for consideration.
Board members are responsible for asking questions and requesting clarification about budget requests, aiming to promote transparency in local government spending and improve understanding of how funds are allocated. Meetings take place weekly from August through December, and interested residents are encouraged to apply.
Grand County operates as a local government entity delivering essential public services, according to the official website. The county oversees administrative facilities such as the courthouse in Moab, extends services throughout southeastern Utah—including Moab, Castle Valley, and Spanish Valley—and manages scenic areas like Arches National Park within its boundaries. The leadership includes the County Commission, which serves as the legislative body for major decisions according to the official website.
The county also preserves dramatic sandstone formations shaped by the Colorado River and supports tourism while conducting public meetings to address community needs according to official sources.
