Senator John Curtis, who represents Utah’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed the ongoing government shutdown and local infrastructure issues in a series of posts on his social media account.
On October 8, 2025, Curtis commented on the government shutdown, stating, “This was a pre-determined government shutdown fueled by partisan politics and deeply unserious demands. We need to reopen the government, negotiate in good faith, and return to the regular appropriations process.”
Later that day, Curtis discussed local infrastructure, sharing, “Had a great conversation with State Senator Winterton on the safety and sustainability of Utah’s roads and infrastructure. We have THE BEST local officials working on our infrastructure and it’s always great to meet with leaders to talk about local issues.”
On October 9, 2025, Curtis continued to address the shutdown, writing, ” What is unreasonable: forcing a government shutdown to pursue massive, partisan spending increases. What is reasonable: passing the short-term, bipartisan funding package to keep the government open while we finalize our regular appropriations process.”
Curtis has represented Utah’s 3rd district in Congress since 2017, succeeding Jason Chaffetz. He was born in Salt Lake City in 1960 and currently resides in Provo. Curtis graduated from Brigham Young University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
