Senator John Curtis, who represents Utah’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing severe weather events, honoring fallen law enforcement officers, and reflecting on the legacy of a prominent figure in Utah’s arts community.
On September 14, 2025, Curtis reported on tornado activity near Montezuma Creek: “Three tornadoes touched down near Montezuma Creek today, leaving damage that is still being assessed. My heart goes out to the families and communities impacted by these storms. Our office is in close contact with county and local officials, and we stand ready to assist as https://t.co/XtjTlvTyr4”.
Two days later, Curtis commemorated law enforcement officers during remarks made at significant national sites: “Last week, I had the solemn honor of paying tribute to Officer Eric Estrada and Sergeant Lee Sorensen—first at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and then on the Senate floor. May we always remember their courage, and honor their sacrifice. https://t.co/nX4UwE71Z7” (posted September 15).
On September 16, Curtis paid tribute to Robert Redford for his contributions to Utah’s culture and environment: “I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the life and legacy of Robert Redford. His vision with Sundance and his dedication to preserving the beauty of Utah’s outdoors have touched every corner of our state.
Through the Sundance Film Festival, he not only elevated Utah on the world https://t.co/xOVIbhHDg4“.
Curtis has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jason Chaffetz as representative for Utah’s 3rd district. He was born in Salt Lake City in 1960 and currently resides in Provo. A graduate of Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree earned in 1985, Curtis has been active in public service for several years.
