Kansas Housing Grant Awards Local Agencies in Fight Against Homelessness

The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation and the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development grant local agencies funding to provide emergency housing services, and provide housing stability to Salina residents in need. On August 8, 2022 the Salina City Commission approved accepting the Emergency Solutions Grant award for FY2022-2023. The City of Salina accepted funds on behalf of four agencies: Ashby House, Catholic Charities, Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas (DVACK) and Salina Grace. The total amount received for the agencies is $181,331. The total amount granted is higher than the previous grant cycle with an award of $126,324.

The ESG Grant is a fund matching grant that gives local agencies more opportunities to provide housing stability, prevent homelessness, and shelter the homeless or at-risk of homelessness population. The grant allows the nonprofit agencies to help individuals who may need help with rent, utility bill, or temporary shelter. To qualify for the grant, an agency must demonstrate the funds and ability to assist homeless or at-risk of homelessness individuals. The City of Salina helps administer the grant by overseeing budgets and quarterly reports, and distributing the reimbursement payments. The grant year runs from July 2022 to June 2023.
